1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. Kelie: "NPR reported recently that long books are more popular now. People want to invest in the story and like how long it is. What I love about 1Q84 are its two opposing stories and its two different realities – one of which is potentially an illusion. In the story, the way characters know which reality they're living in is by how many moons are in the sky. All Murakami characters are soulful but banal characters. There's depth to them but they are not dramatized. I love Murakami. Lately I've been looking for two moons and think I might be in a two moon reality." @cinders_gallery #newyork #subwaybookreview #book #bookreview #1q84 #harukimurakami #twomoons @npr

Nora Webster by Colm Tóibín. Conrad: "The story is about a woman who loses her husband and goes on a journey to find a new voice and identity. She has to transform her life – it already is changing because of her loss and she can't stop it. She is raising her children, but there is a dissonance as to what she's paying attention to in terms of her own needs versus the needs of her children. She notices this and begins to question herself. The story is relevant to me. A few months ago I lost my dog. He wasn't my husband, but he very well could have been. Losing him has created a new me. I usually look for books that have a strong command of language. This isn't the best example of it, but I stayed with the story and am glad I did. It was soothing." @KentPinnock #colmtoibin #norawebster #novel #loss #transformation #husband #dog #love #bookreview #newyork #brooklyn #subwaybookreview

(Colm Tóibín)

On The Road by Jack Kerouac. Nicole: "I just moved here and a friend sent On The Road to me as part of a care package. It's a great choice and pretty relevant to my life. I'm just starting an adventure and this book is all about adventure. Kerouac didn't have a plan for his journey and when he would leave or come back to New York. Maybe because of this he can find special moments along the way. I especially like how many times he says in the book that he falls in love when he arrives some place new or meets new people. I've been here for about a month and am definitely starting to fall in love with this city." @n.harpy #jackkerouac #ontheroad #novel #classic #beat #counterculture #jazz #poetry #drugs #salparadise #merica #roadtrip #bookreview #newyork #manhattan #brooklyn #subwaybookreview

《在路上》(暫譯,原名為:On The Road by),傑克. (Jack Kerouac)
