THE ELDERFLOWER ROSE
White detached petals,
leaf supports forked down──
dark green and tender red
traverse the belly of Tatu Mountain
Are those stands of elderflower roses
as great and powerful as bands of angry youth
full of vim and vigor enough
to shove aside inconsistencies in the hubbub of a breakdance?
As if raising voices to rouse others
they dreamed up lily-livered creepy-crawlies
they hid in the underbrush.
It’s not screwing around!
Their bodies full of energy
would brazenly tell the world
the elderflower roses know no bounds.
They have a dream of bringing their mound of rich soil to life.
They take action and tell everyone
if spring is so short
and the panorama so clear and calm,
we must seize these good times,
take our places on stage
and dash out for all to see our youthful vitality.
